History

Pathankot is an ancient city with historical significance. The old name is Audumbara. A large number of ancient coins found in Pathankot prove that it is one of the oldest ruins in Punjab. It must have always been a very important place because it is located at the foot of the mountain. Pathankot is the capital of Nurpur State. During Akbar’s reign, its name was changed from Akbar to Dhameri. During the zoning period, the original plan of the Boundary Delimitation Commission was to separate Pathankot (which was part of the Gurdaspur District at the time) into Pakistan and Shakargarh in India. However, as a subsequent fine-tuning of the decision, the opposite was done, namely H. The Shakargarh district is owned by Pakistan, and the Gurdaspur district (along Pathankot) is owned by India.
