History

Dimapur was the historic capital of the Kachari tribe, whose dominance before the 13th century AD. Memories of the glory of this kingdom can be found in the ruins scattered within and outside the city. These ruins demonstrate that culture may have a hint of Hinduism, but it is primarily non-Aryan. Besides the megaliths, Dimapur also contains the ruins of other temples, ramparts, and baths. The name of District comes from the Kachari dialect; "di" -means river, "ma" -which means great or great, "pur" - means a city, together it means "city near the great river" ". It can be seen from the existence of the Khachali Rajbari Fort ruins that the Khachali Kingdom prospered in Dimapur in the past, where there are ancient megaliths and many tanks excavated by the royal family, still today it is called Rajpukuri, Padangpukuri, Bamunpukuri, Jorpukhuri, etc. ., to name a few. The boulders represent the complex rituals of the fertility cult.
