History
Lawngtlai is the administrative center of the Lawngtlai District in Mizoram. In 1880, Haihmunga Hlawncheu, a Lai Chief, founded Lawngtlai hamlet in what is now Vengpui. It was given the name "Lawngtlai" because Chief Haihmunga Hlawncheu captured a boat drifting down the Kaladan River one day, thus the name Lawng-tlai (Lawng=boat, tlai=seized). It appears to be a huge fort created by nature, with a height of about 2,157 meters.
Facts & Culture
Lawngtlai is an elusive oasis of magnificance. Popular tourist attractions in Lawngtlai are the nature reserves and the colossal Blue Mountain. The entire district is dominated by the huge Phwangpui, also known as the Blue Mountain, as a thin layer of clouds makes it appear bluish from a distance. At an impressive height of almost 2,157 meters, it looks like a colossal fortress built by natural scenic mountains, shimmering riverine, and green valleys as one of Mizoram's key administrative districts. . Rhododendrons and flowers adorn the mountain's slopes. Visits to Lawngtlai's three animal sanctuaries, Ngengpui, Sinemon, and Lohawka, are among the other activities that will guarantee that guests have a good time. Mammals, birds, and reptiles may be found in abundance in each of these areas.
A variety of ethnic groups with their own culture and folk music live here. The Lai ethnic group makes up the bulk of the population. They are a tiny section of the Chin people of Burma's Chin State. Nowadays, however, the majority of Lais use Mizo as their primary language.
