History
Chulachandhpur is surrounded by hills and narrow valleys, known locally as Lamka, which has deep historical significance. Churachandpur is about 63 kilometers from Imphal, the state capital, and is believed to have witnessed heavy bombardment when the Japanese entered India. Subsequently, the city was destroyed and today tourists from all over the world visited the city and it is considered the quiet city of Manipur.
Facts & Culture
Churachandpur is a district in the southwest corner of Manipur State, India, with an area of 4750 kilometers. The region has become the home of more than 30 ethnic groups at a historical moment, and has responded differently to the ever-changing geographical and cultural environment. The people who live in the valleys and hills are of the Mongolian race. Many people have common ethnic roots. They settled on the ancient cliffs of the hillside and descended into the fertile valley below. The urge to migrate from the east and southeast to demarcate settlements and survival areas led to the dispersion of groups to all corners of the mountains and valleys below.
The survival mode of other ancient ethnic groups scattered on the hillsides and periodic fertility farming of the mountain soil by slash-and-burn methods, as well as other ethnic groups in the northeast of which implemented the terrace system, echoes the continuity of the communities.
