History

Mandu was founded by Raja Bhoj in the 10th century and later conquered by the Muslim kings of Delhi who built beautiful pavilions, monuments, and mosques. The Governor of Malva, General Dilawal Khan of Afghanistan, established his own little kingdom in Mandu and later transferred the capital to his son, Monk Shah, who enhanced the splendor of the city. Later, in 1561, Akbar captured Mandu and incorporated it into the Mughal Empire; However, in 1732 the Maratha came to power and ruled the area for a long time.

One of the main attractions of Mandu is the cave with charming paintings on the walls and ceiling of the cave. Another famous attraction in Mandu is Fort Mandu, its beautiful palaces, canals, baths, pavilions, etc. they also attract many tourists. India with ruins of Mughal architecture. Some of the most famous palaces and monuments built during the Malva period are Hindola Mahal, Janaz Mahal, the tomb of Hoshang Shah, and Jami Masjid. Some people say that the buildings here are so beautiful that Shah Jahan himself was inspired to build the Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world, in Agra. Mandu is also known for its 12 massive gates that reflect the grandeur of the building, including Derrida Vaza, Tarapur Gate, Jehangir Gate, and Lampol Davazza. Baz Bahadur Palace and Roopmati Pavilion are other great buildings to visit when traveling to Mandu. It is said that Rani Roopmati once lived in his pavilion and you can see the Baz Bahadur Palace, which is easy to see from here. Other attractions worth visiting are Nirkante Mahal, Hati Mahal, Jali Mahal, Malik Mujis, Mosque, Dhaka Mahal, Dari Tomb of Yahan, Daikichodi Behan Ka Mahal, Lohani Caves, etc.
