History

As a thriving commercial center, Thiruvananthapuram, especially the capital of Travangel, has a long and rich history. It is believed that in the vicinity of Povar is an ancient port called Orphee, which traded with ancient Greece and Rome. In fact, the rulers of Travangel ruled their kingdom on behalf of the chief god of Thiruvananthapuram. One can find many influences of its former Maharajas in the architecture of Travancore, even after its modernization in the early 20th century. After Travancore joined the Federation of India, Thiruvananthapuram became the capital of the Travancore Cochin state. The reorganization of the country in 1956 witnessed the formation of Kerala, uniting the ancient kingdoms of the north and the south. Thiruvananthapuram is the city chosen by the capital of New South Wales. It was not known as Trivandrum until 1991, after which the original name of the city, Thiruvananthapuram, was restored.

The Puthenmalika Palace Museum (Puthenmalika) is a rare craft specimen of the traditional Travangel architecture style. It is also known for its exquisite wood carvings. It was created by the great poet and musician Travangel King Maharaja · Swathi Tirunal Balarama Varma (Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Balarama Varma) built, social reformer and politician. Padmanabhapuram Palace is a gorgeous palace in Thuckalai, on the road to Kanyakumari, where it was once the seat of the ancient rulers of Travancore. There is a picnic spot where Lake Veli meets the Arabian Sea and provides sailing facilities. There are stone carvings from the 18th century in the cave temple in Vizhinjam. Varkala is a land of hot springs and hot springs. It is also an important Hindu pilgrimage center. The main festivals celebrated are the Village Fair, Attukal Pongala, Food Festival, Nishagandhi Dance Festival, Vetta and Arattu, Classical Music Festival, etc. Onam is the most famous festival in Trivandrum and is celebrated mainly in August.
