History

Munnar is part of the Kingdom of Travancore but is genetically owned by the Poonjar family of the Empire. As part of settling the border dispute between Travancore and nearby Madras, Monroe visited the site and truly fell in love with the beauty of the area. Although the Munnar area is under the jurisdiction of the Kingdom of Travangel, it is the Jaimman area of the Pangjia royal family. Munro is very interested in plantations. Among the various hills in the area, he discovered that Kanandevin Mountain has great potential for growing crops. Munro missed the opportunity to visit the Pangal Palace and met the then head of the royal family Rohini Tirunal Kerala Varma Varia Raja, affectionately known as Kra Varma Raja. Munro's merchants won the trust of Kela Varma Raja and agreed to lease Kanan Devan Hill to Munro for a generous reward. Munro founded the North Travancore Farming and Planting Association in 1879. In 1964, the Tata Group worked with Finlay to create the TataFinlay Group. Tata Tea Ltd. was founded in 1983. In 2005, Kannan Devan Hills Produce Company Pvt. Limited. was established and Tata Tea transferred ownership of its plantation to the new company.
