History
The history of Mangalore can be traced back to the 3rd century BC. C. and ruled by different rulers, such as Kadambas and Vira Harihararaya II. Later it was conquered by the Portuguese, who lost it to Hyde Ali. Until the independence of India, Mangalore was still under the rule of the British, who defeated the Tipu Sultan. Mangalore was part of the term of President Madras and was incorporated into the Mysore Unified State in 1956. Mangalore is the second-largest city in Karnataka and the ninth-largest port in India, providing access to the Arabian Sea coast for the state. Mangalore experienced significant growth from the 1970s to the 1980s. The new port of Mangalore was opened in 1974, and Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizer Co., Ltd. was opened in 1976. Today, the Mangalore area is an education center recognized by the country and the service industry is booming. Especially in medical services, small but growing regional IT centers, and the booming real estate and banking industries
Facts & Culture
Mangalore is the gateway to Karnataka. There used to be 8 talukas in this area, but they were separated in August 1997 to facilitate management. The remaining talukas, namely Udupi, Kundapur, and Karkara, later became part of the Udupi area. The city and still regarded as' avibhagitha (undivided) Dakshina Kannada. Lying in the western ghats and surrounded by the Arabian Sea the city offers exclusive views for travelers. This place is famous for its historical buildings and is called "Oriental Rome". The city is named after the Hindu Goddess Mangladevi. A large number of tourists throng the place for its spectacular beaches, freshwater streams, and dense coconut grooves. This is where the Kadri Manjunath Temple, famous for its bronze statues, and the 9th-century Mangaladevi Temple are located. Catholic sites include the 17th century Mira Grace Church and the Saint Louis Church with interior paintings. Tannirbhavi Beach is known for its sunset view.
