History

Around 1400 BC Early evidence of the use of iron slag, pot scales, and iron tools was discovered in the Chota Nagpur area. The Magadha Empire exercised indirect control of the territory and lasted until the reign of King Ashoka. Samudra Gupta's army crossed the area during an expedition to Deccan. In the 4th century AD, King Raja Pratap Rai of Nagvanshi chose Chutia as his capital, which is now in Ranchi. Only a few sites date from the 2nd century AD. With the expansion of the Mughal Empire, Ranchi County became one of the 24 counties in Jharkhand State in East India. The area was controlled by the Magadha Empire, then part of the Maurya Dynasty under Ashoka, and later part of the Gupta Empire. After the demise of the Gupta Empire, a legendary king named Panemkut established the Nagwansi Dynasty and controlled the Chota Nagpur Plateau for centuries.


Facts & Culture

Ranchi was influenced by Buddhism, from Jain, Mogols, and Hindu Kings. Tribal groups during Sarhul Festival meet ranks and organize a procession. Traditional popular music, tools, and dances are the norm. The area is known by the form of the art of Dokra, while festivals such as Basant, Holi, Diwali, Basant Panchami, Jityya Bhaiya are celebrated here. Some of the popular forms of dance are Chhau and Santhal, which are group dances made by the Santhal tribe. Karma is another popular dance performed in August during the Karma festival.  Local populations make bamboo and wood to create craftworks such as baskets, hunting, and fishing equipment, rice huskers, etc. all wild grass called `sabai grass is stained, and fabric bowls, shutters, coaches, coatings, colored boxes, dolls, etc. Pattal "or plates were designed with extra salt leaves, a series of hand motifs with tribal motifs with inlaid wooden boxes, combs, carved door panels, umbrella bowls, thematic and carved toys, as well as the old Birdwoman figures are available in local bazaars. Noted for its waterfalls, green mountain regions, sterile rocks, and beautiful valleys, also Ranchi is extremely rich in natural wealth, such as iron, coal, copper, mica, etc., which makes it an important industrial center. Ranchi is surrounded by rich forests with a variety of trees and wild animals. Forests are home to support, nilgai, hare, sambar. Ranchi was at the forefront of India's struggle against the British.
