It is an important Hindu pilgrimage center, and Baidyanath Temple is one of the twelve Shiva Jyotirlingas and one of the 51 Shakti Pithaa in India. It is 150 kilometers away from Bagarpur, the largest city in the region. Deoghar was formerly part of the Dumka district. It is the fifth-largest city in Jharkhand. Deoghar is a Hindi word, "Deoghar" literally means the residence ("ghar") of the gods and goddesses ("dev"). Deoghar is sometimes referred to as "Baidyanath Dham," "Baba Dham," and "B. Deoghar." The origin of Baidyanathdham has been lost in ancient times and is called Haritakivan or Ketakivan in Sanskrit texts. The name Deoghar seems to be the most recent origin, probably from the construction of the great temple of Lord Baidyanath (Lord Baidyanath). Although the name of the temple builder cannot be traced back, it is said that part of the front part of the temple was built in 1596 by Puran Mal, the ancestor of Maharaja Jodhpur.
