History

Solan`s history is entwined with that of the erstwhile princely state of Baghat. Solan was the capital of the erstwhile princely state, Baghat. The British turned it into a cantonment zone in the 19th century. This district came into existence on 1 September 1972. The city got its name from Goddess Shoolini who is supposed to have saved Solan from being destroyed. Every year in June, a fair venerating the goddess is held, featuring a 3-day Mela at the central Thodo ground
