History
Somnath, also known as PatanSomnath or SomnathPatan, is an ancient ruined city in southwestern Gujarat and central and western India. It is the seat of the Shiva Temple, as Somanatha ("King of Soma", a sacred and intoxicating drink, extended to "King of the Moon"). According to the ancient tradition of the Indian epic Mahabharata, Somnath is the scene of the internal massacre of the Yadawa clan and the subsequent death of Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Vishnu. Recent excavations there revealed a settlement dating back to around 1500 BC. C. Patan, a port on the ruins of the old city.
The first Somnath temple is said to have existed 2,000 years ago. Yes. In 649 AD, King Maitre de Varabini built a second temple to replace this temple and renovated it. In 725, the ancient ruler of Sindh led an army to attack the temple and destroy it. The king of Pratishtha Nag Bhatt II used red stone (sandstone) to build this temple for the third time in 815. In 1026, Mahmud Ghazni loaned the precious jewels and properties of the Somnath temple. After the looting, countless pilgrims were massacred and temples burned. In 10261042, Solanki Raja Bhimdev built the fourth temple Bhoj and Anhilwad Patan, the Parma king of Malwa. Somnath was destroyed when the Delhi Sultanate occupied Gujarat in 1299. It was destroyed again in 1394. In 1706, the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb demolished the temple.

Somnath is a magnificent temple located in Sagarkand in Solastra, Gujarat. One of Shiva’s 12 sacred Geortieringa is located in Geortieringa of Somnath. Somnath is also mentioned in Rigveda. Suraj Mandir is very close to the Triveni ghats of Somnath and has a temple dedicated to Surya Deva.
Sasan Gir National Park is only 50 kilometers from Somnath and is a major tourist attraction for wildlife lovers. They have the opportunity to face the lion, the king of the jungle. Diu is 80 kilometers away by car and is a great tourist destination for many travelers. After doing various religious activities in Somnath, people usually stay here for a day or two after returning home to visit Diu Beach.
