History
Kutch has a history of prehistoric times. There are several sites in this area related to the Indus Valley civilization that is also mentioned in Hindu mythology. Kachi was shared by three different lineages of the Jadeja brothers for three centuries and ruled for three centuries. In the 16th century, Kachi was under the joint rule of Raoqing Garji I of these branches, and his direct descendants ruled for two centuries and maintained good relations with the Sultanate of Gujarat and the Mughal dynasty. After turbulent times and battles with the Sindh army, the country was stabilized in the mid-18th century by a committee called Bar Bhayat ni Jamat, which appointed Rao as the nominal head and ruled independently. Eventually, the sovereignty of the state was passed to the British East India Company.
