History

Gandhinagar is the capital of Gujarat in western India and one of only three government-planned cities in India. Gandhinagar is located on the Sabarmati River and is the administrative center of Gandhinagar. Gandhinagar was named Mohandas k. Gandhi, leader of the Indian nationalist movement. The history of Gandhinagar is proud of being a city of great significance in the struggle for national independence. Mahatma Gandhi belongs to this place. The historical background of Gandhinagar shows that many national movements aimed at gaining national freedom started from Gandhinagar. 

The history of Gandhinagar also pointed out that the country and its political plan was to make Gandhinagar an Indian company. The reason behind this idea is to make this city the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, more prominent nationally and internationally. This city was built in 1966 to replace Ahmedabad as the capital. In 1970, the state government office was transferred to Gandhinagar, and the city later became the commercial and cultural center of Gujarat.

Few places to visit in Gandhinagar are Mahatma Mandir, Akshardham Temple, Indroda Dinosaur, Fossil Park, Sarita Udyan, etc. Adalaj Stepwell around 18 km is a well-known tourist attraction. Gandhinagar exemplifies Gujarat's magnificent cultural history via its major arts, crafts, and works of art, especially wood carvings. Beautiful examples of wood carvings can be found in temples and monuments. Craftsman's craftsmanship in the utensils and objects used daily. The indigenous tribes of Gandhinagar specialize in making unique ethnic jewelry and terracotta. 

Gandhinagar celebrates the main festival Uttarayan-this is the kite flying festival held on January 14th or 15th every year. Navratri festival is attributed to dance performances in different places in Gujarat. In addition to Garba, Gandhinagar also dances in other forms, such as Dandia and Ras. Raas is a very colorful and vibrant dance form. The Gujarati New Year and Diwali are celebrated by the people of Gandhinagar with grand performances and enthusiasm. Holi is another festival celebrated by Gandhinagar. Gujarat Sthapana Divas or Gujarat Foundation Day is also a festival in Gandhinagar. It is celebrated on May 1st every year. Vasant Utsav is also celebrated in winter.
