History

The state of the Rajnandgaon actually emerged in 1830. Bairagi Vaishnav Mahant transferred his capital to Rajnandgaon in his days. The city was named by the descendants of Lord Krishna, as Nandgram. However, the name changed to Rajnandgaon shortly thereafter. Due to the size of the state, the Nandgram was generally governed by Hindu caregivers. The state was mainly under the Hindu kings and dynasties. The palaces, roads, ancients, and the historical remains of Rajnandgaon represent the culture and glory of the era. Once an enriched and prosperous state of India Rajkot became a princely state of the British Raj. The Rajnandgaon district is now in the central part of Chhattisgarh.
