History

Ziro is one of the oldest cities in Arunachal Pradesh. The development of the landscape in the valley can be traced back to the era when the Apatani people were said to have settled in Ziro. According to the Tibetan and Ahom data, the central tribes of the Arunachal Mountains, of which the Apatani is one of them, have lived in the area since at least the 15th century, and possibly earlier. It is said that the Apatani had settled in the Tali Valley for a while before moving the base to Chiro. The Ziro River Valley was originally a swamp wasteland, inhabited by prehistoric reptiles called Bulu, the last one was killed by a brass plate (myamya talo), and it is still well preserved to this date.
