History

The holy city of Tirupati is located in the Chitur district in southeastern Andhra Pradesh. Tiru means holy or goddess Lakshmi, and pathi means residence or husband. Tirupati (Tirumala) was called Pushpamandapa in Acharya Hridayam (13th century). Until the 17th century, most medieval temple cities and their rulers from the Vijaynagar Empire contributed considerable resources and wealth. The city has many historical temples, including Venkateshwar Temple.

In the 15th century, Sri Tallapakacharya sang many songs praising the holy city in Telugu. He compared it to sacred things, including rocks, streams, trees, and animals, adding that it was a paradise on earth. An example of such a song.

Tirupati, known as the residence of Kaliyuga Venkateswara, commonly known as Balaji, is famous for the Venkateswara Temple on the sacred mountain of Tirumala at an altitude of 860 meters. It is also the most visited place of worship in the world, receiving 50,000 to 100,000 believers every day and as many as 500,000 on special occasions. As one of the largest temple complexes in Tirupati, Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple is another miracle worth seeing. Sri Kapliswaraswamy Temple, also known as Kapila Theertham, is the only Shiva Temple in Tirupati.

Sri Venkateswara National Park is home to exotic and endangered species such as Nilgai, flying lizards, tree shrews, hyenas, and golden lizards. Tirupati Deer Park is home to a variety of wild animals, beautiful scenery, and a wildlife lover's paradise. Taracona Falls is one of the highest waterfalls in the country. In fact, the government has proposed giving the city and the Vatican special status. The city of Tirupati itself has several temples, famous for their red wooden toys, and copper and brass statues. Tirupati has been a sacred destination for centuries.
