History

Puttaparthi, a small town of the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, has become a famous center of pilgrim being the residence of the spiritual Guru Sathya Sai Baba. The city is on the banks of the Chitravathi River. The story of Puttaparthi revolves around the birth and life of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Previously, Puttaparthi was a small agricultural city known as Gollapalli, which means "Home Home".

Satyanarayana Raju was born here and because of different accidents that reflected their miraculous powers, people believed he was a reincarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba and was called Sathya Sai Baba. For this reason, people have begun to follow him, and he was believed as a spiritual leader. In 1950 the Prasanthi Nilayam was established, and the establishment of this Ashram converted this city into a world-class city.
